Fighting the Fatigue
Fighting the Fatigue
The one thing all people surviving autoimmune diseases have in common seems to be fatigue. There doesn’t seem to be a way around it. So, how do you live your best life when you feel like lying on the floor for a quick nap? There’s no easy answer. The only one I can recommend is...one breath at a time.
Sometimes the fatigue wins and sometimes you do. It’s all ok as long as you win more often. There’s lots of advice out there...eat this, don’t eat that, yoga, Pilates, walking, B12, elderberries, ginsing, the list goes on and on. Honestly, the best advice has to do with balance. Do what makes YOU feel the best you can. What works today, might be different than what works tomorrow. It’s important to put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. Eat a healthy diet, move your body, and take the supplements that make you feel the best you can. Balance will give you a fighting chance.
Be kind to yourself when the fatigue gets to be too much. It’s essential to listen to your body and rest when it tells you to rest. Know when to get up, know when to rest. Easier said than done. Schedule time for rest, schedule time for movement, schedule time for play. If fatigue is part of your journey, talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you love, gently.
