FAQs
Why would I talk to a therapist?
There are lots of reasons to see a therapist. Sometimes it’s to help deal with an overwhelming issue, to gain unbiased support, to have a sounding board, or learn coping skills. We all need help from time to time. We are here to help. We can offer you a fresh perspective. The therapist only has your best interest in mind.
What happens in a therapy session? Do I have to lie on a couch?
A couch is not necessary. Our office is warm and inviting. We want you to feel at ease and comfortable. It’s a safe place for you to discuss the events in your life, your feelings about things and people, learn coping mechanisms, and set goals for yourself. Sessions will usually start with how your week was, discuss the “homework” assigned to you, and what made you feel proud during the week.
How does confidentiality work?
So this is how confidentiality works…we keep anything you tell us confidential UNLESS: there is a risk of harm to other or self, a child under the age of 16 or an older adult is in danger, or files are subpoenaed. If a client experiences a health emergency during a session, an ambulance will be called for medical attention. Only your name and possible emergency contact information will be given, nothing else.
